Deepa Valji

I am a qualified psychodynamic therapist with 8 years of experience. I work with adults 17+ offering both long term or short-term sessions. I offer a confidential and non-judgmental space where we work together to help you explore and reflect on aspects of your life.

I currently offer face to face, online and telephone sessions through my private practice. I also see clients that have been referred by their GP or local wellbeing centres for short term sessions under the IAPT scheme (Independent Access to Psychological Therapies).

I have a keen interest in gender questioning and confused clients. As the world is changing rapidly, more people are questioning who they are and what community they belong to. More people are showing their curiosity into their own gender and sexual identity. For the LGBTQ+ community there can be obstacles to accessing psychological support, such as fear of being mis-gendered, the worry of their therapist using the right language to talk about gender or sexuality. I have worked with clients that are confused about their sexuality and questioning their gender. To keep my clients safe and to make sure they are understood I have recently completed a course to help inform me in my practice on how to best work with clients that present with these key issues. I keep my practice and knowledge up to date by attending seminars, courses, talks, reading articles - thus always ensuring my continual professional development is updated regularly.

Having an Indian heritage but being born and brought up in England helps me to better understand the difficulties people may face when trying to navigate their way to understanding their own sense of self. I work well with those who want to explore race, religion, gender and sexual identity or any other key issues.

I am a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.) I abide by their code of ethics; I have professional indemnity insurance and have enhanced DBS clearance.
